The effects of detuning as well as the relative phases between the atomic coherence and the field coherent state on the squeezing phenomenon for the one-photon and two-photon Jaynes-Cummings model are investigated. Amounts of normal squeezing can be improved by appropriate choices of detuning and phases. The relation between the collapses and revivals phenomenon and squeezing is made transparent.
